2017 Epstein Cup

On Sunday, June 25, 2017, NSYC will hold the Epstein Trophy sailing race starting from the Worry Wart in Manhasset Bay at 1:30 PM. The race is open only to North Shore Yacht Club boats and will be a single-handed PHRF race with an optional safety/observer person permitted aboard. It will be held in Manhasset Bay and LI Sound and is planned for about 2-3 hours. This is a non-spinnaker race and a whisker pole may not be used. A Cruising Start will be used in this race, with a standard 5 minute starting sequence but then there will be a 5 minute window during which boats may start. Please note that a separate finish line, also at the Worry Wart, will be used. Full race instructions and details are included in the Sailing Instructions. The Epstein Trophy race is one of the races in our Club Race Series, which is described on the club website. We will endeavor to provide NSYC skippers with a competitive, challenging and enjoyable afternoon of racing.

To register for this race please email raceentries@nsyc.net with your intention to race along with your boat name, boat type, length, sail number and YRALIS PHRF rating. If you do not have a YRALIS PHRF rating we will develop one for you if you supply the aforementioned data plus the size of your largest jib (as a percentage of ā€œJā€), the number of blades on your propeller and whether or not it is folding or fixed (if you need help call Richard Raskin 516-801- 6467). If J-105s enter the race they may declare if they are to be rated at 99 PHRF and be allowed to use up to a 155% jib or at 105 and be allowed only to use their class jib. A scratch sheet of all the boats registered will be emailed to all registrants on June 24th and posted at the club on the morning of the race.

Sailing Instructions for the Epstein Trophy will be emailed to all entrants, will be available at www.nsyc.net/sailing/racing and will be available at the club and from the Race Committee on the Worry Wart on the day of the race. We will be using the chart with mark letter designations from the Cow Bay Racing Association circular for our courses. If you do not already have the CBRA chart you can download it from the club website: www.nsyc.net/sailing/racing, click on Cow Bay Racing Association Sailing Instructions

Race results will be emailed to entrants, posted on our website and published in the Blinker. Trophies for the race and the winner of the Club Race Series will be awarded at the annual NSYC Dinner Dance.
