2017 Commodore’s Cup
On Sunday, September 17, 2017, NSYC will hold the Commodore’s Cup sailing race starting from the Worry Wart in Manhasset Bay at 1:30 PM. Following the race the Commodore’s Raft-up will be held. We are trying to encourage boats that don’t usually race (Cruisers) as well as the usual Racers to race so please read on. We will endeavor to provide NSYC skippers with a competitive, challenging and enjoyable afternoon of racing. This is the last club race of the season followed by a not to be missed party so why not make a day of it?
The race is open only to North Shore Yacht Club boats and will be a full crew PHRF race. The race will be held in Manhasset Bay and LI Sound and is planned for about 2-3 hours. This is a non-spinnaker race but a whisker pole may be used. A Cruising Start will be used in this race. Please see the Commodore’s Cup Sailing Instructions for more details on the Cruising Start, which will be somewhat different than
the Cruising Starts used in the past.
Please note that a separate finish line, also at the Worry Wart, will be used. Full race instructions and details will be included in the Sailing Instructions. The Commodore’s Cup is one of the races in our Club Race Series, which is described on the club website. If at least two Cruisers (boats that do not usually race) register and race and at least two boats that usually race (Racers) register and race the Cruisers and Racers will race in their own divisions. Registrants may request whether they want to sail in the Racers or the Cruisers division but the final division placement will be made by the RMC. Trophies will be awarded separately for each division.
To register for this race please email firstname.lastname@example.org with your intention to race along with your boat name, boat type, length, sail number and YRALIS PHRF rating. If you do not have a YRALIS PHRF rating we will develop one for you if you supply the aforementioned data plus the size of your largest jib (as a percentage of “J”), the number of blades on your propeller and whether or not it is folding or fixed [if you need help call Richard Raskin (516-801-6467) not later than September 13th ]. A scratch sheet of all the boats registered will be emailed to all registrants a day or two before the race and posted at the club on the morning of the race.
For sailing Instructions for the Commodore’s Cup, click here. We will be using the chart with mark letter designations from the Cow Bay Racing Association circular for our courses. If you do not already have it you can download it from the club ebsite: www.nsyc.net/sailing/racing, click on Cow Bay Racing Association Sailing Instructions (PDF).
Race results will be emailed to entrants, posted at the club, published in the Blinker and posted on the Club’s website. Trophies for the race and the winner of the Club Race Series will be awarded at the annual NSYC Dinner Dance. Please join the Commodore’s Raft-up starting at 1600 hours after the race. We hope you will register, race and have a great time.
